Review: Pony Effect Unlimited Cream Shadow

Velvety texture and warm colors, let’s see how well these cream shadows work!

Cream shadows are quite common in Korean makeup companies, however, they are usually designated to ‘pearl’ sparkles for aegyo sal or as an all-over light lid wash. Pony Effect Unlimited Cream Shadows have turned out to be quite a surprise! Straying from the pack, Pony has incorporated eyeshadow bases and bright colors into her cream shadow range. Do they measure up?

The packaging on Pony Effect products is always beautiful. Each cream shadow comes in a glass jar with a rose gold twist top. The tops are indented with the lightning bolt ‘S’ and the product is clearly listed on the bottom in Korean and English. I’m not usually too much of a fan of smoothing metal packaging since it attracts fingerprints but I’ve noticed these stay fingerprint-free. Overall, the jars do their job. I’d recommend closing them tightly since most jar-based products dry out quickly when exposed to air.

Each jar contains 6g of product for $17 USD. MakeupForever and Anastasia Beverly Hills both have 6g jars of cream shadow at $23 USD and $18 USD to compare. The only ingredient you may have an issue with is the Theobroma Cacao Seed Butter but only in terms of acne. Since the product is meant for eye use you shouldn’t have any issues.

Ingredients : (vary by color) Cyclopentasiloxane, Glass, Isododecane, Trimethylsiloxysilicate, Ceresin, Titanium Dioxide, Cyclohexasiloxane, Diisostearyl Malate, Alumina, Polyethylene, Polyglyceryl-2 Triisostearate, Silica Silylate, Hydrogenated Polyisobutene, Iron Oxides, Disteardimonium Hectorite, Iron Oxides, Propylene Carbonate, Red 7, Tin Oxide, Polyglyceryl-2 Diisostearate, Theobroma cacao (Cocoa) seed Butter

This range comes in 8 colors :

#Open-Minded – Matte Neutral Muted Taupe

#Heartwarming – Matte Nude

#Future-Proof – Metallic Shimmery Rose Gold

#Beloved – Shimmery Peach

#Paparazzi – Shimmery Peachy-Pink

#Over-Imagination – Metallic Burgundy

#High-Standards – Matte Chocolate Brown

#X-Factor – Blue-Green Duochrome

The colors all lean on the warmer side with warm browns and jewel tones. As said earlier, a few of them are recommend as a base, Open-minded and Heartwarming specifically. There is a good mix of matte, shimmer, and metallic finishes.

According to Memebox:

The silky creams deliver intense and long-lasting pigmentation, blend seamlessly, and quickly set into skin without creasing. Plus, these sweat and water resistant cream shadows lend buildable coverage without sitting heavily on lids like cakey powders.

These cream shadows have an interesting texture. There is almost a balm-like feel that spreads very smoothly as it warms up to your skin. One of them was noticeably thicker, #Open-Minded, but after reading some other reviews it seems intentional for a base before powder shadows. I found these incredibly easy to work with my fingers. When using a brush, it can be easy to grab a little too much product but after some practice, it’s just as easy as finger application.

For all day wear, they lasted pretty well. As an oily-lided lady, I did have some issues with creasing but when set with a translucent powder or similar eyeshadow they didn’t budge. You have to work somewhat quickly with blending as they dry fast. One swipe gives a medium wash, two swipes give true-to-pot color. The shimmery shades catch light very well, looking sparkly even in dimmer lighting.

Left to right : #Open-Minded, #Heartwarming, #Future-Proof, #Beloved, #Paparazzi, #Over-Imagination, #High-Standards, #X-Factor

I lightly swiped each color 2 times for full pay off. The matte shades (Open-Minded, Heartwarming, and High Standards) all blend out very smoothly. Heartwarming has a very generic description (matte nude) this color is a buttery beige.

Paparazzi (below right) is hard to capture but gorgeous in real life. It’s described as ‘Shimmery Peachy-Pink’ but it’s more like a bright orange with magenta foil shimmer.

Another notable color is X-Factor (below left). This is the color that first caught my eye online and it looks just as pretty in real life. The brown base is cool toned with a muted blue-green shimmer, blends out nicely for a one-color eye look.

Overall this is another Pony Effect win is my book. Her goals in eyeshadow products seem to be bendability and soft formulas, these fit perfectly. I have definitely been grabbing them on quick look days.
